Choose from 1- or 2-cup single or dual wall filter baskets depending on the number of shots and whether beans are freshly ground or pre-ground. Use the Razor dose trimming tool to ensure the filter basket is properly filled. Steam and froth milk with the steam wand to create classic espresso drinks.

Great espresso and foamed milk; best value from Breville I was ready for an upgraded espresso machine and found myself really, really on the fence between the Breville Duo Temp Pro (about $400) and the “Barista Express” (about $600, but with a pressure gauge and a burr grinder). I also considered the Breville 800ESXL, which is also about $400 and LOOKS more like the $600 Barista Express, but then I realized it’s a ThermoBlock rather than Thermocoil. So really, the Duo Temp Pro and the Barista Express have more in common with each other than either does with the 800ESXL.Initially I couldn’t talk myself into the extra $200 (*wait till the end!) and decided to purchase the Duo Temp Pro. Since this is an important purchase and there are only a few reviews here, I wanted to add mine to help out. Short version: once you play with it a little, this machine makes excellent espresso and foamed milk– better than 90% of what you’re going to get on the street. Great espresso, but several small things that are annoying. We bought the Duo-Temp after the pump in our old Breville 800esxl started to get too weak to make good espresso. Having worked in a coffee shop, I’m a bit particular about good espresso, and the Breville 800esxl really lived up to my expectations. Since they no longer offer that model, we went for the Duo-Temp, which is basically the equivalent now.I love the espresso this machine makes, but there are several small issued with this new machine that bother me. First off, the old machine had a window on the water tank at the front of the machine. So every time you went to make coffee, you could see the water level while you were making it. With the new Duo-temp, the water tank is semi-transparent, but it’s on the back. I never used to run my machine out of water, but I already have several times, so that bothers me.They also redid the drip tray. Going strong after 4 months of daily use. This is my second espresso machine. My first was a DeLonghi, which lasted 3 months before the froth mechanism gave out, rendering the machine useless. 300 bucks for 3 months of use. From reading reviews of espresso machines I was torn on whether to invest in another one or assume that I’d stand a 50/50 chance of another dying in 3 months. A few trips to Starbucks convinced me I needed another machine. It’s just too convenient having one at home and I missed it. So I purchased this Breville Duo Temp 4 months ago and use it between 3 or 4 times a day. I finished my first complete cleaning on it and bought a new bag of Starbucks espresso. Right away I noticed the water wasn’t coming through fast enough. It was like the water pump had lost it’s pressure. I tried everything I could think of. I packed less coffee, tried the different filter baskets and yet nothing worked. I could get water to run through it, but not with coffee in it. I feared the cleaning had destroyed the machine…
