Big Capacity, Small Footprint. Mediocre Quality and Longevity, Other Quirks UPDATE 10/29/2016 – It has been about 2 years owning this unit and using it at least once a day. I can say that I got a reasonable life out of the machine but the last year things have been going downhill. I now need to shop for a new coffee maker and I am shying away from purchasing this one again. I think I would spend a little more money to get something better. The four reasons I would not buy this unit again are as follows:First, the handle broke inside the cap which caused dispensing to fail. I took things apart. Inside the cap a plastic ring cracked two places. As an Engineer I recognize this is a weak design. I removed this ring & lever assembly and the dispensing was no longer blocked, but not sealed as well. I kept using the unit and carafe despite some of the dripping that occurs when pouring.Second, the white text on many of the buttons has completely worn off – I must program the unit from memory/habit. This adds to a hard-to-read LCD…

Not Built to Last, But Makes Good Coffee This machine makes good coffee and I purposefully got one with a thermal carafe instead of a heated tray because I have had a problem with the glass carafes getting broken. If you purchase this unit, be sure you understand it does not have a heating element to keep the coffee hot, but the insulated carafe worked well for us.This unit lasted 5 months after brewing two to three pots per day. I assume the heating element is the problem, and it is the same issue as other reviews that it only pumps one or two cups of the water we put in the reservoir and then stops. We tried running a descaler through, but that didn’t seem to help. The unit was within the warranty period, but past the return date. The warranty said to take it to a Black & Decker authorized service center for repair, which I was skeptical of. When I took it there, they confirmed they don’t repair coffee makers, and gave me an 1-800 number to call. The person on the phone was very helpful and…

Energy Efficient and Stays Relatively Hot 160 – 170 degree range Bought this from a store locally and paid the same. I like it.It did take 12 minutes to brew and had a lot of steam that came from the back. The top of this machine has a positive snap feel to it. It can brew in 3 strengths. Normal, Strong and Bold. I used Strong and yes it was strong with using the normal amount with our prior coffee maker and this was with a paper filter. I am not sure why they state that this has a permanent filter so I will go buy a mesh filter.Pros~Temperature was 170 just brewed after 30 minutes the temp dropped a couple of degrees after 1 hour the temp was 164 3 hrs later temp was 145. Not bad because I did not run hot water into the carafe prior to making. Probably a good practice if it wasn’t on the timer.~Small footprint on counter.~Sturdy, positive snap down brew lid.~Water level on the right side. Good for my counter setup.~Sturdy carafe. Not real heavy even when full.~Portable hot coffee…
